  2. A PhD student surnamed Sun is in the hot seat for occupying a woman’s seat on a high-speed train on Aug 21.

In a video posted on Sina Weibo, the man can be seen slouching in a seat. When the woman asked him to give her seat back, he refused and said: “You have three choices –stand, take my seat or go to the dining coach .”

A train attendant (乘务员) then came to try to persuade him to give the seat back. Sun claimed he wasn’t able to stand on his own and asked for a wheelchair. Left with no other options, the attendant led the female passenger to another seat, China Daily reported.

The video quickly caused debate online. Many have expressed anger at the man’s behavior. Some people even dug up the man’s name, as well as his education and work history, and released this information online.

The Jinan Public Security Bureau handed down a punishment for Sun on Aug 24. He was fined 200 yuan and will not be allowed to buy train tickets for a set period of time, the People’s Daily reported.

However, some think the punishment was not strict enough, adding that those who behave similarly on airplanes can be held criminally liable (承担刑事责任), China News Service noted.

Experts explained that the bureau could only punish Sun in this way according to present laws and regulations. But they added that such laws could be improved to stop train passengers from behaving poorly.

  3. Come to meet Luo Tianyi, the most popular virtual idol (虚拟偶像) in China. The 15-year-old singer is not a real person, but an animated figure created by a computer. She has appeared in many TV shows and advertisements. She even held two concerts in Shanghai with nearly 10,000 fans.

Starting career in 2012, Luo is China’s first virtual singer. But she is not the only one. Just in 2017, 14 virtual idols were created in China, according to Global Times.

Although many people think the virtual world is much less reliable (可靠的) than the real one, the virtual idols have all found their places among fans. But how do these virtual idols win people’s hearts when there are so many good-looking and talented human stars?

One possible reason is that virtual idols like Luo are much closer to their fans. Fans write songs for their virtual idols. Luo’s fans have created more than 10,000 songs for her and some have become her most famous works. For example, a fan created a song, in which Luo enjoys all kinds of delicious food. Being a foodie ended up as part of Luo’s personality later. It is the fans who give their virtual idols their own personalities.

Virtual idols are also better at staying out of trouble than human stars. There’s bad news about human stars from time to time, but virtual idols never let people down. By giving people something that can’t be provided by human stars, virtual idols are more than idols to their fans.

  4. Sad ending unites two families

The story of Romeo and Juliet takes place in Verona in Italy. Two families, the Montagues and the Capulets, hate each other so much that they fight on the street whenever they meet.

One of these families, the Capulets, holds a big party. They introduce their daughter Juliet to a rich nobleman (贵族), Count (伯爵) Paris, who has asked to marry her. Juliet is nearly 14, and her parents are keen for her to marry soon.

That night, at the party, Romeo, the son of the Montague family, meets Juliet and they fall in love at first sight. However, Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt, knows Romeo is from the Montague family and wants to kill him. Romeo hides in the garden and talks to Juliet when she appears on her balcony. The next day they go to a priest (神父) called Friar Lawrence, who marries them in secret.

Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt, gets angry very easily. He starts a fight with Romeo’s best friend. When Romeo steps in to break up the fight between the two men, his best friend is accidentally killed. Romeo runs after Tybalt in anger and kills him. Romeo is sent away from Verona. But Friar Lawrence, the priest who organized the secret wedding between Romeo and Juliet, arranges for them to spend one night together as husband and wife.

Meanwhile, the Capulets decide that Juliet must marry Count Paris at once. When Juliet says that she doesn’t want to, her parents are very angry with her. Of course, they do not know that she has already secretly married Romeo. Juliet asks Friar Lawrence to help her to see Romeo again. Friar Lawrence has an idea - he gives Juliet a drug which will make everyone think that she is dead. But in fact she’s only in a long, deep sleep. While Juliet is sleeping, Friar Lawrence sends a message to Romeo to tell him to come to her tomb (坟墓) and take her away.

When the guests arrive for Juliet’s wedding the next day, they find Juliet’s lifeless body. Believing she is dead, her family put her in their tomb. Sadly, Romeo never gets Friar Lawrence’s message that Juliet has taken a drug and is really alive. He only hears that she is dead. Romeo returns to Verona, and goes to Juliet’s tomb. There, inside the tomb, he meets Count Paris, who has also come to say goodbye to Juliet. The two fight and Romeo kills him. 1. 阅读下列短文,根据短文中的信息完成文后表格。(每空一词)

Social media is a big part of most people’s lives. There are social apps and sites like WeChat and Sina Weibo, as well as video apps like Douyin and Kuaishou. How do you behave when you use these apps?

Recently researchers at the University of Sussex, UK, studied social media users ranging from 10 to 15 years old. They found there are four personality types. They are either a “geek (极客)”, an “internet celebrity (网红)”, a “lurker (潜伏者)” or a “victim (受害者)” on social media.

    Victims

Victims don’t have enough knowledge to keep themselves safe online. To avoid being a victim, you should follow these tips.

First, check your privacy settings on social media. Choose “Friends only” for your posts.

Second, do not share your birthday, age, or place of birth. This information can be used to find out more about you.

Lastly, do not share the location of your home or your vacation plans. Thieves may break into your home if they know you are not there.

    Geeks

Geeks are active social media users who care about their privacy (隐私). They often post creative works online, using unreal names.

The movie The Social Network tells the story of Mark Zuckerberg. He is comfortable in his online life, but finds life in the real world to be much more difficult to deal with. This can remind “geeks” to try to avoid becoming addicted (上瘾的) to the Internet and take part in more face-to-face communication.

    Internet celebrities

Internet celebrities might become well-known for their singing or dancing. And many of them share almost every aspect of their lives in order to attract more fans.

Being a teenage internet celebrity can sometimes cause problems in the real world, according to an article published by The Atlantic. Teenage celebrities might spend less time studying and more time online, which may be harmful to their study

    Lurkers

Most teenagers probably fall into the type – “lurkers”. You probably have such friends who prefer to “like” and share links , rather than creating their own content online.

The problem for these teenagers is that they may find it difficult to express themselves. But at least they make sure to protect their privacy.
