This week, our topic is pollution. What are the answers to all of our pollution problems? We asked two experts to give their views.
◇Forest Smith is a member of Green First, an environmental group.
Our future on the Earth looks very bad. We are dumping waste on our land. We can’t breathe the fresh air. The sea is polluted too.
I visited some relatives recently in a small village. They grow their own food and cycle everywhere. They are not wealthy, but they are happy and healthy.
We must close the factories producing useless products. That will reduce rubbish and air pollution. We must recycle more, give up all cars, and improve public transport.
A big problem is overpopulation in big cities. We must give up big cities and factories, and go back to a simple way of life.
◇John Green is a scientist at a university.
Things are not as bad as Forest says. We’ll have a bright future. We don’t need to give up cars but we need to invent better, cleaner engines.
This won’t stop the problem of traffic jams. So we need better public transport. We should also recycle more.
But some things are getting better. My sister returned last month after living abroad for five years. She said, “Our old neighbourhood doesn’t look the same as before-it is cleaner and greener now.”
In a word, science has brought many improvements to our life.

Colour is the key! Choosing the right colour of your bedroom should be the first decision when designing the space. A general rule is to avoid using overly bright colours in it You might be pleasantly surprised when you try out the colours that bring you peace.
Light it up
It is important to choose the correct lighting when designing a bedroom. Besides practical ceiling lighting, lamps and floor lamps can also make it easy for you to get into a sleepy state in the evening. So don't forget to introduce smaller pockets of light around the room.

A tidy room helps you feel calmer. Please remember to reduce the unnecessary furniture and choose the one with doors to hide away the messy clothing shelves. Advertisement is an important part of our lives. We are so used to them that we often do not even realize how many we see and hear in a day!
What is an advertisement?
An advertisement provides information and uses creative languages and attractive pictures to encourage people to buy a product or service or believe in an idea. Newspapers, magazines, the Internet, radios and televisions are the most places to find advertisements. There are two main types of advertisements—commercial advertisements and public service advertisements (PSAs). A commercial advertisement is one which someone has paid for to promote(提升) a product or service. PSAs are often placed for free, and are to used to educate people about health, safety, or anything that affects public welfare(福利).
Does an advertisement tell people the complete truth?
China has strong laws to protect people from advertisements that lie or try to make people believe untrue promise about products or services. However, we still must be careful with the methods used in advertisements to try and sell us things. Even if an ad does not lie, it does not mean it tells the complete truth. One toothpaste ad says “Bright-teeth fights bad breath!” the advertisers want you to read the word “fights” and think that the toothpaste cures bad breath, but it does not say that! We must not fall for this kind of trick!
Public service advertisements.
Not all ads play tricks on us though. PSAs use some of the same methods, but they are made to serve the public. PSAs are meant to teach us and help us lead better lives. You have probably seen or heard some of them yourself, like “Yes to life, no to drugs” and “Knowledge changes life”. These ads deal with large social issues(问题). There are also PSAs that educate people about public service projects, such as Project Hope. All of these ads are meant to be helpful, and you can often learn a lot by following the advice they give.
Try to remember: think about why you should do or buy the things the ad suggests. We all want to be smart about what we believe, so be smart about advertisements.

A study shows that one million lives might be saved each year if people wash their hands with soap(肥皂) often. It also says that hand-washing with soap could be among the best ways to reduce diseases. Doctors say many diseases can be prevented from spreading by hand-washing. These include the common cold, influenza(流行感冒), hepatitis(肝炎), infectious diarrhea(腹泻) and so on.
Doctors say the easiest way to catch a cold is to touch your nose or eyes after someone nearby has sneezed or coughed. Another way to catch a disease is to eat food prepared by someone whose hands were not clean.
They also say that hand-washing is especially important before and after preparing food, before eating and after using the toilet, after touching money and sneezing or coughing.
