Roosegaarde, an artist and designer from Dutch has thought of a device(装置). He hopes it will make Beijing's sky clear again and help the people with masks breathe fresh air again in Beijing.
An electromagnetic field(电磁场) will pull the dirty particles in the air to the ground, and then they can be easily cleaned.
Roosegaarde says, "It's like when you have a balloon which has static electricity(静电) and your hair goes toward it. Smog happens the same way as the hair."
His workplace has reached an agreement with the Beijing government to test the technology in one of the capital's parks. Beijing's skies are regularly covered by grey smog. Serious cases of air pollution are often reported in Beijing. Roosegaarde says an indoor test has already shown it works well and he is confident of the results. With the help of a team of scientists and engineers, he is sure that the device can be worked outside.
"Beijing is a very good place to test the device because the smog in Beijing is quite low and there's not so much wind." says Roosegaarde. "We'll be
able to make the air pure but the most difficult thing is t
o remove the smog. As a result, you can see the sun again."
Roosegaarde also reminds us that his aim is not only to give a plan to solve Beijing's dirty air pollution but also to make people pay attention to the environment problem. He adds, "This is not the real answer for smog. The real answer to do with it is clean cars, different industry and different lifestyles. " However, he hopes the project will make the citizens realize the differences between clean air and smog-filled air.
1.The device works by_______.
A. helping keep the particles out with more masks
B. pulling particles to the ground with an electromagnetic field
C. absorbing hair with a balloon with static
D. creating clean air and letting it out into the sky
2.What does Roosegaarde use his device for?
A. To make smog. B. To make the air clean
C. To make static electricity. D. To make Beijing's parks beautiful.
3.After reading the passage, we can know_______.
A. the device doesn't work well indoors
B. the people with masks can breathe fresher air
C. Beijing government agreed to test the device
D. clean cars aren't helpful to the environment in Beijing
4.Roosegaarde hopes people in Beijing can_______.

Clouds are an ordinary sight. However, this Dutch artist makes his own.
Berndnaut Smilde creates clouds in locations where nature would never place them. The interior (内部) of a church or museum looks different behind a cloud. And an everyday cloud looks unusual in a castle. The art project explores the beauty of clouds. Each scene lasts only five seconds before it disappears.
The ingredients (成分) for Smilde's clouds: just smoke and water vapor (水蒸气). The artist requires a cold and wet space with no wind. Otherwise the clouds will never form or will fall straight to the ground.
Once a cloud is formed, Smilde will run around it and turn it into a shape about three meters across and 1.8 meters tall. Then, he will step back far enough to take several pictures. Smilde will not stop until he is happy with the results. Usually, he creates a dozen clouds at a time.
Many people are interested in Smilde's project. Some ask him to create clouds for them at a party or a wedding ceremony. Smilde, however, often refuses the invitations. He says he only creates clouds when the setting (背景) offers him something fresh. The artist doesn't just want people to stare in wonder at his clouds. An 11-year-old blind girl is proud of walking alone every day to and from school. Why? She has to walk past so many barriers (障碍物) in her way. The girl's home is near the school, yet her mother follows her without letting her know.
The case of the girl shows the barrier-free(障碍物) facilities (设施) are not enough in her city. Many other cities are short of barrier-free facilities as well. There's no well-designed path for the blind. In fact. in the early 2000s, some cities started to build barrier-free facilities for disabled people. However, almost 20 years later, only a few large cities have had facilities of high quality.
It's common that sidewalks are taken up with barriers. Few workers are sent to move them away, so it's dangerous for the blind to walk on them. Also, some other barrier-free facilities are badly destroyed(毁坏). Only a few workers are assigned (分配) to do the task of repairing the broken ones.
Some ideas can make a difference — build more barrier-free facilities, employ(雇用) more of workers and require money. In a word, more money is needed to carry on with the work. It’s our duty to make life easy for disabled people, so that they can live without barriers some day.
