We are looking for volunteers to help us support newly immigrant youth that live within the city.
We provide various programs such as:
Life Skill Program: Provides the students with a sense of belonging to the school and community in different lessons once a week. These programs are located in primary, junior high and at high school level.
Homework Club: Lends a hand with Math, Science, ESL and Social Studies for students between grades 1 to 12.
Family Program: Connects newcomer families with community resources to deal with cross-cultural problems that may occur.
Immigrant Youth Pilot Project: One-on-One assistances for students at the high school level who have limited English language, math and literacy skills, and few community supports.
We are looking for individuals with the following characteristics:

● Writing briefly
● Second language would be a value. (Languages in high demand are Chinese, Middle Eastern Arabic, and Persian Farsi)

Do you want to make a difference in your community? The Verizon App Challenge can get you started. The first step is to think of a problem in your community. The next step is to create an app that can solve the problem.
Groups of five to seven students in middle school or high school, led by a teacher, can enter the contest. First,teams will compete on a local level. Teams that make it to the next round receive $5,000 for their schools. Finalists present their app ideas to judges in a live web conference. Next, the judges pick national winners. The top eight teams receive an additional $15,000 for their schools, and each team member receives a Samsung tablet. Plus, the winning teams get the chance to bring their app to life.
A group of six girls from Los Frenos, Texas won the second annual Verizon App Challenge. They came up with the Hello Navi app concept, short for “hello navigation”. The app was designed to help visually impaired (受损的) students navigate (导航) their school.

Here are some tips from the Verizon Foundation to get you started：

Make A Difference Day is the largest national day of community service in the USA, which takes place on the fourth Saturday of October.
Who takes part in Make A Difference Day?
Anyone! Young and old, individuals and groups, anyone can carry out a volunteer project that helps others. It might be as ambitious as collecting truckloads of clothing for the homeless, or as personal as spending an afternoon helping an elderly neighbor or relative.
