When we are talking to someone,we tend to change someone else's mind to our way of thinking. And we may often find it difficult to do that. So here are five tips on how to change someone's mind.
The first one is never to turn the conversation into an argument. It should be a conversation where you show your opinions and the facts that you've collected. By showing them the facts,we want to tell other people that we are right. But emotionally, they may not totally agree with what you say. So when you are trying to change someone's mind, try to keep it as a conversation and not an argument.
The second tip is never to say that you are wrong. If someone makes a statement that you think is wrong,it's better to point it out by saying,"I thought otherwise but I might be wrong, let's look at the facts. "The key is to say that you might be wrong, not that you are wrong. This opens up the other person to look at the data again and shows them that you're not bullheaded(顽固的)and that you're not going to change your opinion. You're showing them that you are open to new ideas and this is super important in changing someone else's mind to your way of thinking.
Tip number three is to get the other person saying yes as fast as possible. You may begin your conversation on hobbies that you guys have, something that they're crazy about, something that gets them saying yes. Because the more that you get them to say yes now,the more likely they are to say yes in the future. A conversation like this will get them to start to like you and maybe even more open up to ideas that you have. It builds up trust between the two of you.
Tip number four is to let the other person do a great amount of talking. If you let them talk more you're going to show that you actually care about their opinions and ideas, which will earn their respect in the end. By listening to them, you're going to create a friendly relationship and build trust. So when you express your opinions, they will also show a willingness to listen. Never interrupt them when they are talking. Just listen patiently with an open mind, encourage them to talk even more and more so that when it's your turn to talk, they'll listen and say nothing.
The last tip is to let the other person feel like the idea was theirs. It's wiser to make suggestions and let someone else come to the conclusion, then they have a sense of pride that it's their idea. Giving someone the data and letting them come to the conclusion, let them feel like it is their idea and they take pride in it.

When we meet someone for the first time, we often would like to talk about ourselves. We just want to show the best to others. But why not listen?Sometimes, listening is better than talking. Then how to be a good listener? Here are a few suggestions:
◆ Look at the speaker. It shows you are listening carefully. It's also a good way to “talk” to your friend with your eyes.
◆ Don't cut in. Give your friend enough time to say what she or he thinks. Don't stop your friend's words. Even if you want to say something, you should wait till your friend finishes.
◆ Try to understand. When you are listening, try to catch his or her feelings and ideas. It helps you know your friend better. And your friend will feel better about you. He or she may think you are the right person to talk with.
◆ Show your ideas at the right time. “It's interesting.” “What happened next?”…These are useful when you are listening. And you can give advice when your friend asks for it.
It's never too late to become a good listener. It can change your life and the lives of the people in your life.

When you talk with someone, you’ll need to end your conversation at some point. And there are many reasons why you need to do that. Either you or the other person may need to continue an activity such 1. working or shopping. Or you may have run out of things to say. You just want to keep the conversation short.
But 2. do you end a conversation in a polite way? It may depend on where and how the conversation started. It may also depend on your relationship with the 3. person. If you already know that person, you can just say, “I need to run now.” Or you can say, “I’ll catch you later.” You may also give a reason for ending the conversation. “I really need to go---my piano class starts in ten 4. .”
Perhaps you just meet someone in a social situation, and you have a nice talk. But then you have to go. You can say, “It was nice meeting you. Maybe we can talk happily 5. sometime in the future.”
Another way to end a conversation is to make it easy for the other person to 6. . If you see the other person is already not patient, you can say, “Well, I’ m sure
you have a lot to do today.”
You could use these 7. to end a conversation, and you should notice that others may also use them. 8. they do so, you should know that it’s time for you to stop

The word‘day’has two meanings. When we talk about the number of days in a year,we are using‘day’to mean 24 hours. But when we talk about day and night,we are using‘day’to mean the time between sunrise and sunset.Since the earth looks like a ball, the sun can shine on only half of it at a time.Always one half of the earth is having day and the other half night.A place is moved from day into night and from night into day over and over by the spinning(旋转)of the earth. At the equator(赤道)day and night are sometimes the same length, they are each twelve hours long. The sun rises at 6 o’clock in the morning and sets at 6 o’clock in the evening. For six months the North Pole is tilted(倾斜的)toward the sun.In those months the Northern Hemisphere(半球)gets more hours of sunlight than the Southern Hemisphere.Days are longer than nights.South of the equator nights are longer than days. For the other six months the North Pole is tilted away from the sun. Then the Southern Hemisphere gets more sunlight.Days are longer than nights.North of the equator nights are longer than days.Winter is the season of long nights.Summer is the season of long days.
1.When the Western Hemisphere is having day.the Eastern Hemisphere is having_________.
A. both day and night B. day

We always use body language in our daily life. When we have a talk with someone, we may use more body language than words. However, the same body language may mean different things in different countries. That’s why people sometimes do not understand each other correctly. Pointing to one part of the body can mean differently in different cultures. For example, in the USA people point to their heads when they think someone is clever. However, in Europe it means “He or she is stupid or something is wrong with his or her head” .In China, nodding heads means “Yes” and shaking heads means “No”. However, in parts of Greece and Turkey, they mean just the opposite. In England or the USA, when you raise your hand and make a circle with the thumb(大拇指) and the second finger, it means “Everything is OK.” However, if you do this in France or Belgium, it means “You’re worth zero.” In Greece or Turkey, you should not make this gesture, or you are thought to be very rude.
The meaning of gestures can also change over time. In the 1960s, the V sign meant “peace”. However, during World War II, it meant “victory”. In Greece, it is a very insulting(侮辱性的) sign.
Though the meaning of body language is different, there are some expressions having the same meaning throughout the world.
1.In England, if people point to their heads, it means they think someone is _________.
A. clever B. stupid
C. beautiful D. angry
2.In parts of Turkey, if one nods his head, it means he ________ .
A. doesn’t agree B. agrees
C. is happy D. is sad
3.In France, if you raise your hand and make a circle with the thumb and the second finger, it means ________.
A. it is true B. everything is OK
C. you are clever D. you are worth nothing
4.The V sign meant _____ during World War II.
A. peace B. victory
C. agreement D. killing
5.In which country is the body language the most different from our usual thinking?
A. France. B. England.
C. Greece. D. America.

Every once in a while someone sends us a story that's so beautiful we are forever changed by it. This is one of those stories.
It started in Winchester, Massachusetts, 43 years ago, when Rick Hoyt was born. Somehow his umbilical cord became wrapped around his neck, leaving him brain-damaged and unable to control his limbs (四肢) .
The doctors told Rick's parents that he would be a vegetable for the rest of his life. But Nick Hoyt, Rick's father, didn't believe it. He noticed the way Rick's eyes followed him around the room.
When Rick was 11 they took him to the engineering department at Tufts University and asked if there was anything to help the boy communicate. "No way,'' Nick says he was told. "There's nothing going on in his brain.''
"Tell him a joke,'' Dick countered. They did. Rick laughed.
Turns out a lot was going on in his brain. Rigged up with a computer that allowed him to control the cursor by touching a switch with the side of his head, Rick was finally able to communicate. First words? "Go Bruins!''
And after a high school classmate was paralyzed in an accident and the school organized a charity run for him, Rick pecked out, "Dad, I want to do that.''
Yeah, right. How was Nick, a self-described "porker'' who never ran more than a mile at a time, going to push his son five miles? Still, he tried. "Then it was me who was handicapped,'' Nick says. "I was sore for two weeks.''
That day changed Rick's life. "Dad,'' he typed, "when we were running, it felt like I wasn't disabled anymore!''
And that sentence changed Nick's life. He became obsessed with giving Rick that feeling as often as he could. He got into such hard-belly shape that he and Rick were ready to try the 1979 Boston Marathon.
"No way,'' Rick was told by a race official. The Hoyt's weren't quite a single runner, and they weren't quite a wheelchair competitor. So, for the first few years, Rick and Rick just joined the massive field and ran anyway.
Later, they would find a way to get into the race officially: In 1983 they ran another marathon so fast they made the qualifying time for Boston the following year.
Then somebody said, "Hey, Rick, why not a triathlon?''
How's a guy who never learned to swim and hadn't ridden a bike since he was six going to haul his 110-pound kid through a triathlon?
Still, Rick tried.
Now they've done 212 triathlons, including four grueling 15-hour Ironman Competitions in Hawaii.
This year, at ages 65 and 43, Nick and Rick finished their 24th Boston Marathon, in 5,083rd place out of more than 20,000 starters. Their best time? Two hours, 40 minutes in 1992 - only 35 minutes off the world record, which, in case you don't keep track of these things, happens to be held by a guy who was not pushing another man in a wheelchair at the time.
1.Where was Rick Hoyt born?
_____________________________________________________
2.Who said that Rick would be a vegetable for the rest of his life?
_____________________________________________________
3.How did Rick communicate with others?
______________________________________________________
4.What sentence changed Nick’s life?

5.What is Nick Hoyt like?
